　　一、名词从句

　　英语的名词性从句分为主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句和同位语从句四大类。名词从句的翻译一般按原文的语序处理即可，但也还有其他一些处理方法。下面我们分别介绍这类从句的翻译方法。

　　1. 主语从句的译法

　　由关联词 what，who，which，when，where，why，how，whenever，wherever，whatever，however等和从属连词that，whether等引导的主语从句一般按原文的语序翻译。

　　这种物质能得到怎么样的利用要由它的性质而定。

　　That substances expand when heated and contract when cooled is a common physical phenomenon.

　　物体热胀冷缩是普遍的物理现象。

　　在翻译做形式主语的主语从句时，往往先译出从句(形式主语it视情况可不译，也可译为“这”代替从句);也可先译主句，然后再译从句。

　　气体像液体一样总是从高压区流向低压区，这是一个普遍规律。

　　It is often unclear whether certain building elements serve a structural function in addition to other functions.

　　2. 宾语从句的译法

　　一般说来，科技英语翻译的宾语从句可按原文的语序翻译，但有些介词像except, besides, but, as to等的宾语从句，应按汉语习惯译在主句之前。

　　It is necessary to determine what initial velocity the object was given.

　　必须确定该物体被给予了多大的初速度。

　　A crack in the tension zone of the concrete implies that some slip has occurred the steel reinforcement and the surrounding concrete.

　　在混凝土受拉区出现裂缝意味着钢筋与周围混凝土之间产生了一些滑移。

　　The change of motion of the body depends on how the force on it.

　　物体运动的变化取决于力如何作用于它。

　　3. 表语从句的译法

　　在复合句中位于主句连系动词后的从句称为表语从句。表语从句的译法比较简单，一般可按原文的语序翻译。

　　An advantage of prestressed concrete is that the concrete and the steel are severely tested during the prestressing operation.

　　预应力混凝土的一个优点是施加预应力过程中混凝土和钢材均受到严格的检验。

　　A fundamental premise is that the basic loadcarrying mechanism for all structures is the same and is best examined with reference to concepts of shear and moment.
